How to Play Bloxorz
Your block has three orientations: standing tall (1×1 footprint), lying flat along either axis (1×2 footprint). Each arrow key tips the block over one unit in that direction — the puzzle is that every move changes both its position and its orientation, so the path to the hole has to be planned in rolls, not steps. Fall off the edge and the level restarts; finish all 33 levels to beat the game.
- Roll: ↑ ↓ ← → (or W A S D)
- Goal: roll the block until it stands upright on the hole tile, then it drops in
- Orange tiles are fragile: the block falls through if it stands on them — only roll across while lying flat
- Switches: round (soft) switches trigger on any contact; heavy X-shaped switches need the block lying flat on top. They toggle bridge tiles in and out of existence
Tips & Strategy
- Count your rolls. To arrive standing on a specific tile you need the right parity of moves — sometimes one extra roll far away saves you from being stuck two tiles from the hole. Work backwards from the hole.
- Respect the fragile tiles. Before crossing an orange bridge, make sure you enter it lying flat; standing on it even for one move drops you off the map.
- Trigger heavy switches deliberately. If a bridge doesn't appear, you probably hit the switch while standing instead of lying — roll back and land flat on the X.
- Don't memorize — visualize. Levels look different but reuse the same trick set: parity, fragile tiles, switch pairs. Naming the trick makes later levels much faster.
- Stuck? Restart fast. There's no penalty for restarting, and on a puzzle this rotational a clean board beats half-remembered positions.
